Route

This week of cruising in the West Dodecanese islands is very relaxing.

The route is in favor of wind and provides a first stop in Pserimos (the island of sand) where we will stop to enjoy baths and relax and arrive in the evening at the bay of Palionissos in Kalymnos (the island of sponges). In the following days we will go to Leros and Arkangelos from where we will leave to go to the small island of Levitha where we will anchor in a bay at the South coast. The island is barren and uninhabited with magnificent water. Only in summer there lives a family of fishermen and shepherds who run a tavern and the cuisine is excellent. The next morning taking advantage of the wind from stern we will arrive in Astypalaia.

This island is magical. Far from mass tourism, Astypalea offers spectacular landscapes and pristine bays. To return to Kos, at the end of our week, we will face a fast navigation with the crosswind

Leros & Archangelos

Leros is an island still little known as a destination for international tourism and for this reason it is much loved by those looking for authenticity and tranquility away from mass tourism in the Greek islands. The bay of Pandeli is very attractive with its picturesque port dominated by 6 windmills on the west coast where we will sleep in the bay if the wind allows it. The bay is very pretty with white houses scattered around the bay. Leros has a lot of hidden beaches and bays.

We will sail to the island of Archangelos after breakfast. Archangelos is a small island in the North coast of Leros. The bay is wild and there is only a small traditional Greek tavern serving delicious grilled meat and fish with traditional peasant cuisine. The water is spectacular. From here we will reach Levitha

Levitha

The small island of Levitha, in which we will anchor in the bay to the South, is bare and uninhabited. It is exactly in the middle between the Dodecanese and the Cyclades. Little known, off the coast (because you get there only by boat and there are no connections with other islands). This is an island that still offers what you think may be the purest essence of Greece. During the Second World War the island was an Italian outpost in defense of the Dodecanese. Today it is “only” a paradise out of the world.

There lives only one family originally from Patmos in a white farm in the middle of the island. Fishermen, farmers, shepherds and even entrepreneurs because in the middle of the bay have arranged a dozen buoys for passing boats. They ask €. 7 a night. The sea is very fishy and the water in the bays is magnificent.

Astypalea

Astypalea is the butterfly-shaped island. It is one of the most beautiful Greek islands and has remained surprisingly off the coast of tourism, despite the airport. White houses on top of a hill, crystal clear sea beaches and a simple and relaxing lifestyle.

Deserted bays, cobalt-colored sea, islets with white sands, taverns on the beach. This is Astypalea. Not at all trendy, it has only two boutique hotels and little nightlife, concentrated in Livadi and Chora.

The island deserves to stop for a few days to visit the various beaches and it is absolutely mandatory a one night stop in the bay on the island of Kounoupi where is no electricity and the only tavern offers typical dishes of traditional Greek cuisine. It’s a dream
